C25K

So, today I started the couch to 5k training program.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to die.  I haven't ran longer than 30 seconds since probably my freshman year of college.  I have always wanted to run a 5k and the exercise is much needed.  But I started running today, and couldn't even finish day 1 of training.  I have so many things running through my head right now.  I'm so disappointed in myself right now.  A group of ladies and I are going to send emails to hold everyone accountable.  I hope that helps because right now I'm pretty down on myself.  Mike wants to run a 5k on the anniversary of his heart surgery (February 24th).  I would like to be able to do it before then but I for sure want to be able to do that with him.  Ahhh what have I got myself in to?!

Happy 25th Birthday Hubby!!

This post is belated because we had a bit of drama around hubby's birthday.  A week before his birthday, he was up all night with chest pains.  The next day he went to the doctor and I got a phone call telling me I had to come pick him up and take him to the ER and he could not drive himself...  Talk about, PANIC!  Then, 2 days later, we had another episode of the same exact thing and I had to call an ambulance.  Yea... NO FUN! We were both home from work Wednesday afternoon through the following Monday.  Here's photographic proof!

His actual birthday was on October 12th.  He was still feeling pretty blah, but there was cake and ice cream!

Sick or not, he still made out like a bandit and got some pretty good gifts.  While I was searching on the internet, trying to figure out what to get him, I came across some DIY sites.  I went ahead and got him some of the things he asked for, but then I made this:
I saw it here and couldn't resist!  Hubby loves golf and hasn't got to play much lately.  He also is always wanting new toys and such for his desk at work, so I thought it was perfect!  The body and head of the dog is made with golf balls and the tail is made with a golf tee.  I think it's cute!  :)

Funny

I just have to share a conversation I had with my dad the other day.  It cracked me up!

Text from Unknown #: "So, when are you going to get me some tricycle motors?"
Me: "Umm, I think you have the wrong number"
Text from Unknown #: "You know, rug rats, curtain climbers, monkeys?"

At this point I choose to ignore the text message and my first instinct is, "Are you drunk?"  Also, I have had problems in the past with people prank calling me so whenever a number I don't know calls, I normally have Mike answer.  So at this point the unknown # starts calling me, so I give the phone to hubby.  He answers in his most manly voice and then busts out laughing.  He hands me the phone and says it's for me but won't tell me who it is.  Turns out it is my dad.  He got a new work phone and I didn't have the number yet.

So, after laughing at me because I made hubby answer the phone, he asks me again, "So when are you going to get me some tricycle motors?"  For those of you like me who STILL do not get it:

Me: "Dad, what on earth are you talking about?"
Dad: "What makes a tricycle work?"
Me: "You peddle it"
Dad: "Who peddles it?"
Me: "Kids?"
Dad: "Yea, so when am I going to get some tricycle motors?"

Hahahaha  Soooo.... apparently my dad is ready to become a grandpa.  I thought this was the cutest, funniest thing ever.  I just think it is so sweet that my dad is ready for grandchildren.  Now... if only I could get my husband on board.... :-)

Summer Deliciousness

I'm not a huge fan of coconut.  In fact, I don't like regular pina coladas.  However, I found a recipe today that sounded pretty good, so hubby and I decided to try it out.  It is sooooo good!

Bobby Flay's Coconut-Banana Colada

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, peeled, quartered and frozen
  • 1 cup canned crushed pineapple in juice
  • 3 ounces coconut rum or dark rum
  • 1 cup canned cream of coconut (available in the international aisle)
  • 1 lime, halved
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut, toasted, for garnish (optional)
Directions:

Place the bananas and pineapple in a blender; puree until smooth. Add the rum, cream of coconut, 2 cups ice cubes and the juice of half the lime; blend until smooth and frothy. Thinly slice the remaining lime half. Pour the colada into glasses; garnish with lime slices and toasted coconut, if desired.

Owning a Home

Some days it is still hard to believe that we own a home. I look out the window and see the dogs running around playing and I can't help but smile. I love owning a home and we are so incredibly blessed.

However, there are definitely things you don't think about.

1. Watering the grass. I seriously did not appreciate rain as much as I do now and there is definitely a shortage of that around here!! We are still trying to figure out what sprinkler is most effective for us. We're open to suggestions!

2. Bugs. Seriously wasn't ready for them. Having a yard brings lots of critters! I don't think it's time for an exterminator or anything but I just don't like bugs!

3. Air Conditioner. AC for a little ol' apartment compared to a 2400 sq. ft. home is a HUGE difference! Not only that, the way our apt was situated, the sun never beamed straight in to our apt. Here at the house, during the middle of the day,the sun shines directly through the second story window of our entryway. It turns the house into an oven when it's 100 degrees outside. Oh and we know the AC works because someone's been out here twice. Sooo... now we will be looking in to solar screens.

First Time Homeowners!

This post is long overdue.  We bought a house!  On May 18th, we received the keys to our new home.  Since then there has been a lot of scrubbing, remodeling, adding, watering, you name it.  There are still things we would like to do, and our landscaping still needs some serious work, but for the most part, we are extremely happy in our home.  I can hardly believe it's ours! I'll save my words for now and just share some before and after pictures.  Enjoy!!

I don't have Before pictures for every room so here are photos of the rest of the rooms in our home.

First Spare Bedroom- Will be the first room converted to a nursery some day :-)

2nd Spare Bedroom

Office- I don't have before pictures, however, this room was practically destroyed by the Pit Bull that used to live in this room (and was likely locked in all day), therefore the floors had to be re-done.

Spare bathroom- decor to change (this was all we had for now.)

Stairway

Entry way- LOVE the high entry here

Laundry Room- adjacent to the kitchen

Laundry room has a whole wall of shelves.  Could use some organizing, but I love the space!
